Ya Ya Saturday

After spending twice as long as we expected trying to wrest a client's car from their garage to deliver to them, I headed off to the country to a birthday party with my favorite cousin.
I approached the house from 4 different directions and untold country miles, each time coming to "road closed". the last road closed I was about ready to cry-- a pickup truck load of a family was coming through the area and I asked how to reach my destination. The driver told me I could go through, just follow that blue pickup truck-- if your clearance is high enough. Well, by god, old law abiding me did it, and you know what? that drop off where they have completely cut a road down to the dirt bed is pretty high and I thought I was going to be trapped there. There was no way out but up and over.... I made it through and I won't be doing that again, but the afternoon, late evening on one of our state's week long period of perfection was worth the scare and the thunk. Luckily the new family fiance is a mechanic and he said I did nothing wrong and all is well. When I went home, I had to leave in the direction of the first road block, and of course, there was nothing there--just flat smooth road, If I had gone around that first sign I would have shaved an hour and a half off of that one mile trip.. and known nothing about driving off the edge of a dug up road.

Today we will go off to see Henry as Larry will be gone for a month working on a job and will not get our every-two-week-minimum Henry infusion. I will, but Larry won't. Sorry honey.

Doctor of Jurisprudence

That is what the degree is called my daughter earned yesterday on one of the most beautiful days of the year. The weather was perfect and the ceremony was specific to their degrees, charged them with the power and education to make true differences and urged them to use their future wealth to bring positive change. I wanted to audit the class of the main speaker who was a brilliant woman from Harvard. Law graduates have impressive, velvet trimmed robes and get "hooded". I could not imagine what a hooder was, being a middle school teacher, I had my own interpretation! But each graduate has a colorful hood added to their robe by a professor OR maybe a family member who graduated from the U of I in the past. This thing is hung around their necks like a backwards necklace and they leave the stage looking even more magesterial than before. The band was super, only 5 pieces, great. I really thought the Krannert center was wonderful, and do they ever have a nice gift shop! We hurried to our dauther's house to meet with family and have home grown brauts from the new small butcher shop in town. All of you within driving distance--get to Le Roy for the most delicious brauts ever made, and not a drop of grease! How do they do that? Henry soon warmed up to everyone, although he was afraid of his Great Uncle Jim for a little while, I think it was because his grandpa's voice came out of a strange man's mouth-- Henry was expecting Grandpa and ran into a large strange man. It took him a few minutes to get over that. We were together with members of our family who are only all together at funerals. That was a refreshing change, we could laugh and talk, several were going over geneology charts trying to figure out the deep dark hilarious secrets of generations past. Generations that didn't feel the need to blab everything to the world. Lets just say that sometimes the national geographic genome project and geneology research don't exactly come up with expected information-- if you don't have a sense of humor, maybe you shouldn't go there.

Hot Tonight.

crawled out of exercise tonight--did 50 non-continuous minutes on the elliptical-- and a half hour of weight training in between- Now hear this, I have exercised faithfully for over one year--2 to 3 hours a week, half weight and half to 3/4 cardio--eating nutrisystems food since september--lost over 30 pounds........my cholesterol is UP--248, it is usually 179 or therabouts and balanced good to bad just right. what the ??????? salad for at least 150 days for lunch out of the year and a few six inch whole wheat fresh no dressing no cheese sandwiches from subway. plenty of fruit.....grrrr. could it be my blood pressure medicine? could it be the doxepin for sleep? could it be the generic daypro for arthritis? I don't want any more damned prescriptions.

Babysitting!

I got an urgent call from law-student daughter, in the midst of exams and huge papers-- needed me to come and watch the boy so she could study. I had a great time and so did Henry. He is just a brilliant charmer. I did leave today during his nap, so I asked his Daddy to tell him I had to go to school.
